Yakima County Fire District #3
The Naches Fire Department is in need of a new facility
Our building was originally a grocery store until about 55 years ago when the fire district purchased it and converted it to a Fire Station with minimal changes.
The existing 70 year old structure is simply too small for the present day services our department provides.
The health and safety of our firefighters is paramount. Our existing Fire Station has inadequate ventilation / air-exchange and a lack of space for an effective de-contamination process.
Currently there are 8 fire apparatus vehicles that need to be housed.
Our Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, four Captains, two Lieutenants and the Fire District Secretary share one small office.
This project plan has been in the works since 2007. Because of the structural integrity of our building, further remodeling would be inadequate for the department needs.
In 2009 a F.E.M.A. grant application was submitted, but the award was not granted.
Fire District 3 commissioners have established a project budget of approximately $2.5 million. They have $700,000 to put towards this project, with the remaining balance to be funded by asking fire district patrons to support a maximum $1.85 million bond in February 2018. The rate for the bond is estimated at $.70 per thousand (or $70.00 for $100,000 assessed value). The payoff would be 20 years.
The primary goal is to have a fire station facility that addresses current firefighter and community safety issues that will be efficient, functional and sustainable for years to come.
